WDR 3 Konzert (broadcast) Online

Westdeutscher Rundfunk Köln (WDR) Germany
Richard Lorber, Appellhofplatz 1, 50667 Köln
This is the broadcast of concert in the series "Forum Alte Musik Köln" from February 25th: Rheinische Kantorei and Das Kleine Konzert with Leipzig cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach from 1724

Johann Sebastian Bach's appointment to the Thomaskantorat in Leipzig in the spring of 1723 marked the beginning of a new phase in his artistic career, which initially entailed composing a church cantata almost every week. Even today, one can only marvel at the verve and inventiveness with which Bach set to work. Hermann Max and his ensembles Rheinische Kantorei and Das Kleine Konzert demonstrate this exactly 300 years later in a selection of cantatas from the Epiphany period in 1724. With this concert from the "Forum Alte Musik Köln" series, WDR 3 Konzert celebrates Early Music Day on Johann Sebastian Bach's birthday.
The following cantatas will be broadcasted:

Herr, wie du willt, so schick's mit mir, BWV 73
Jesus schläft, was soll ich hoffen, BWV 81
Nimm, was dein ist, und gehe hin, BWV 144
Leichtgesinnte Flattergeister, BWV 181

Tono Divino Ensemble Netherlands
Spuiplein 150, 2511 DG The Hague
Tono Divino Ensemble stands as a distinguished baroque ensemble renowned for its spellbinding renditions of 18th-century music, with a predominant focus on the rich tapestry of Spanish and Latin American compositions. Specializing in the intricate and nuanced works of the Baroque period, Tono Divino Ensemble is committed to delivering authentic interpretations that showcase the brilliance of musical treasures from this era.
These pieces called Jardinerito del Huerto Cerrado and Oh, admirable are compositions by Juan Manuel Gaitán y Arteaga (1716-1804), a chapel master from Córdoba, Spain. This exquisite piece is a part of Gaitán y Arteaga's villancicos and cantadas, a choral form with instrumentalists and vocalists. The performance contains the folklore flavor of tondadilla de escena, a pre-flamenco genre that flourished in Spain during this epoch. Through this artistic journey, we breathe life into the composer's intricate melodies and convey the profound narratives embedded within his musical oeuvre.
Our mission is not merely to perform, but to transport our audience to the heart of the Spanish Baroque period. Through a meticulous dedication to authenticity and a profound understanding of the nuances of this era, we strive to evoke the essence of 18th-century music, allowing our listeners to immerse themselves in a captivating world where the past and present harmonize seamlessly.

It is the direct predecessor of the historic bassoon, whose charm Wouter Verschuren, an outstanding performer and sought-after teacher at the Royal Conservatoires in The Hague and London, knows how to appreciate. Specialising in the interpretation and research of music from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, his main aim is to rediscover forgotten repertoire for his favourite instruments. His partner on stage and in life is the remarkable harpsichordist Kathryn Cok, a respected teacher at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.
